The Discipline of Criminology and Sociology comprises of local and world-leading scholars with teaching and research expertise spanning across several subject areas with academic interests in anthropology, animal protection, bullying, cybercrime, crime prevention, drugs addiction, juvenile delinquency, family studies, forensic psychology, green criminology, migration, policing, offender rehabilitation, sex workers, youth problems, restorative justice and women studies. You will be equipped with broad knowledge of criminology and sociology; and with professional competence to conduct scientific research to solve problems at the local, national and international levels, with a particular interest in exploring process of socialization, paths to deviance, cultural diversity, promoting a non-discriminative society, and maintaining a crime-free community in the world.

We offer a range of qualifications catering to academics and practitioners alike, including undergraduate degree, Master’s degree, and PhD degree programmes. It provides comprehensive training in related fields like psychological and sociological theories of crimes, forensic criminology, criminal justice, deviance in cyberspace, policing, dispute resolution, and offender rehabilitation.
Faculty members in the criminology discipline have established their reputation in a wide spectrum of criminology research, including crime prevention, triad studies, school and cyber bullying, restorative justice, juvenile and youth justice, socio-legal studies, crime control in the Greater China Region, animal abuse, violent and sexual offending.

Sociology is the scientific study of human social relationships and institutions. Topics range from crime to religion, family, divisions of race and social class, culture to social stability.
The discipline has been flourishing at CityU since its inauguration in 2006. It has continued to grow in its national and international reputation. It has always ranked within the best 101 to 150 in the QS World University Ranking in the past decade.
Faculty members in the sociology discipline have featured outstanding academic merits and research impacts, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups, including migrants, sex workers, women, youth and elderly in the context of larger social structures and government policies in Chinese societies.
