Psychology is the scientific study of the brain, mind and behavior. Currently, three programs are being offered to cater for different aspirations in pursuing psychology at the undergraduate, taught postgraduate, and research postgraduate level.

Research Volunteer Scheme
Pioneered by the psychology discipline, the scheme aims at furthering research skills in students by involving them directly in research projects led by faculty members.

Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology

The major in Psychology aims at providing students with a comprehensive training in psychology, with emphasis on research competence in the study of human behaviour, for further advancement in professional practice in human and social behavioural services.

Stream I: Health & Development
The Health and Development stream provides specialized knowledge and training on well-being, growth and development, and quality of life.  The main objective of this stream is to enrich human condition throughout the lifespan.  The stream is ideal for students who are interested in public health, clinical and health psychology, and human development.   

Stream II: Mind & Brain
The Mind and Brain stream is designed to enrich students’ learning and understanding of how our mind works from a brain or neuroscience perspective. The brain imaging and stimulation approaches on studying the human mind, and impact of brain injury on mental function and behavioural performance will be covered. This stream prepares the students who are interested in a future career or academic path in cognitive psychology and neuroscience.

Joint degree program with Columbia University
After completing the first 2 years of study at CityU, students can apply for admission to the joint degree program with Columbia University. Students admitted to the joint program will continue their study at Columbia University for the 3rd and 4th year of their study. Successful completion of the program leads to two bachelor’s degrees, one from CityU and the other from Columbia University.

Professional Recognition
Holders of this degree with at least a lower second-class honors or GPA 3.0 and have successfully completed a list of courses in different areas of psychology stipulated by the Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS) shall be eligible to apply for Graduate Membership of the HKPS. Every HKPS membership application is assessed on an individual basis.

This conversion program is designed to provide non-psychology degree holders with the knowledge, skills, exposure, and insights for (1) analyzing human behaviors from a psychological perspective, (2) developing research expertise in applying psychology to relevant settings, and (3) pursuing advanced professional training and a career in psychology and closely related areas. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for graduate membership of the Hong Kong Psychological Society. However, membership is granted on the basis of individual merits but not automatically upon application.
