Research

The psychology discipline is dedicated to addressing emerging societal challenges by translating scientific rigor into tangible community benefits. Guided by the University’s five strategic research themes of One Health, Brain, Digital Society, Smart City, and Matter, the discipline has conducted interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, achieving significant social impact. Tackling critical issues on aging, migration, and inequity, psychology faculty members lead impactful research initiatives in areas including retirement planning interventions, family caregiver support, resilience-building for new immigrants, and practices influencing public policy related to early childhood rehabilitation and special educational needs.

The Psychology Laboratories serve as a hub for integrating teaching and research. Supported by continuous investment, the facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment, including mobile EEG systems, optical brain imaging, and a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) system, to ensure psychology faculty and students remain at the forefront of innovation.

CURRENT PROJECTS

The psychology discipline has been strategically focusing on multidisciplinary research, collaborating with local and international experts and researchers from diverse fields, including medicine, neuroscience, engineering, public policy, education, and linguistics. In alignment with CityUHK’s strategic research themes, three research clusters are formed in the psychology discipline to optimize collaboration and foster interdisciplinary research. The psychology laboratories are equipped with facilities and instruments to provide a stimulating educational environment to our undergraduate and graduate students and facilitate conduction of experimental studies. Members of the psychology discipline have also actively engaged in translational research to address the needs of a wider group of beneficiaries.
