The ONLY UGC-Funded Undergraduate Programme in Hong Kong to Provide Comprehensive Training in the Disciplines of Criminology and Sociology

  • The only UGC-funded undergraduate programme in Hong Kong to provide comprehensive training in the disciplines of Criminology and Sociology.
  • The first of its kind in the region to offer students a focused insight into how science and scientifically-based techniques address our most challenging crime problems.
  • This programme is a learning process which will impact a person’s quality, attitude, and ability. Students can develop an interest in discovery and innovation to benefit society through crime control and reduction, societal development and improvement with the application of various sociological practices.
  • Paying great attention to the  whole-person development, ample opportunities are provided for students to participate in self-discovery and knowledge building, including acquiring knowledge in classrooms, conducting independent research projects in the local community, and applying theories into practices through local and overseas internships, study tours and student exchange programmes (e.g. Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore, US and UK).

The MAASS Programme allows students to pursue a Master degree with specialization in either Criminology or Applied Sociology. The programme aims to train social science practitioners with sound knowledge in the theory and practice to help people, organizations and communities develop innovative solutions, and to accomplish excellence in undertaking research in social sciences.

  • Our postgraduate research programmes (Master and PhD) aim at training students with sound knowledge in theory and practice to help people, organisations and communities devise innovative practices to real-life problems, and to accomplish excellence in undertaking research in social sciences.
  • The CityU Criminological Science Doctoral Training Centre (a bit of wishful thinking here) in cooperation with our partners (e.g. Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science University College London) provided an international centre for PhD training in criminological science and security.
  • Taught by a strong team of experts from sociology, criminology, psychology, social work, counselling and psychology background.  Students from various backgrounds also form circles to enrich synergy for effective learning and become competent researchers or practitioners at an advanced level in the key areas of sociology or criminology.
