Social work and counselling are two invaluable disciplines having synergy across the micro, mezzo and macro levels of professional practice for the well-being of the disadvantaged and the advancement of the society. We seek to offer high quality professional and academic training in social work and counselling to prepare students as helping professionals with competence in their reflective practice and intellectual ability to understand and inform the practice environment with knowledge.
We are proud of having a team of dedicated faculty members who are excellent in teaching, research, and evidence-based practice. They are passionate in nurturing students and active in conducting multi-disciplinary and applied research in the areas of positive education, youth problems and crimes, school bullying, substance abuse and rehabilitation, health and ageing, poverty and housing, family process and parenting practice, disability and diversity, treatment methods for people with psychosocial and mental health problems. Three social work faculty members are awarded the very prestigious Teaching Award granted by the University Grants Committee (UGC) in 2013, 2014, and 2021.
To inform teaching and research with the most up-to-date service development and intervention models, we have strong outreach and solid connection with the local and professional communities through knowledge transfer projects, research, consultancy, and serving board/committee members of government and non-government organizations. All these can contribute to all-round and whole-person student learning and development. With our expertise in social work and counselling, we offer a range of qualifications from an undergraduate degree, a Master’s degree, to a Ph.D. degree levels.
