Hong Kong’s aging population is projected to hit 30% by 2038, yet many residents remain financially and psychologically unprepared. With nearly half of pre-retirees failing to save, there is a heightened risk of poor psychosocial well-being in old age.
To address this issue, a three-part project investigates how to motivate younger and middle-aged workers through an experimental design by presenting an "aged future-self” photo or a “current self” photo to participants, followed by a 5-day daily writing task. By measuring outcomes at two-week and six-month intervals, the study clarifies the medium-term impact of these interventions on financial, health, psychological, and social preparation. Ultimately, the project aims to identify effective strategies to encourage holistic retirement planning among working adults.
