Cohort: 2015
Former job: Psychological well-being officer: New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association

The psychology program here was a nurturing ground for potential psychological researchers and professional psychologists. I harvested solid foundation and enduring passion in the scientific knowledge about humans – empowering me to take the role of my previous work position as Psychology Assistant in primary healthcare clinics, and the current one as Psychological Well-Being Officer. I am grateful for what we learn about humans was brought back to humans in the positive light of mental wellness. Tips for the undergraduate newbies – the work as Student Research Assistant and volunteer with diverse populations are some good means to enrich one’s walk of life and apply psychology systematically.

I was impressed by the programme offering both the breadth and necessity to better prepare me for pursuing a professional career in Psychology. Through taking the courses in the programme, I was not just able to develop a solid foundation in different streams of Psychology but also had the chance to explore and reflect on my true interest and passion. The faculty was also very experienced and supportive in guiding me through my learning journey, challenging my status quo, and providing valuable advice regarding my career choices. I am truly thankful for what the BSocSc programme has made me!

CHU Tsz Lun Alan

Cohort: 2010
Current job: Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, USA

During my three years of studies in the BSSPSY programme, I served as the Psyfest President and the BSSPSY Class Representative, took part in research assistantships and a final-year project on sport motivation, and completed an internship at Nanjing University and an exchange programme at San Diego State University. These experiences prepared me well for my graduate education and career as a professor/mentor, motivation researcher, and sport psychology practitioner. The BSSPSY programme provided me and all students with excellent opportunities to grow professionally and personally, which I have been very grateful for.

Current job: Personal assistant to CEO, Plaza Premium Group

As a mature student, it can be challenging to pick up my study after spending extensive years working. The BSSPSY program professors gave me a lot of support patiently and helped me adapt to the learning environment better. The program curriculum enabled me to think out of the box and encouraged me to challenge the conventional psychological perspective under the modern landscape critically. I appreciate the diversity and inclusion in the university, which allow every student to enjoy the learning without boundaries.

Current position: trainee clinical psychologist

My time studying psychology at CityU was fruitful and intellectually stimulating. It provided me with fundamental knowledge of psychology and research methods. One of the most helpful experiences that I had was the opportunity to work as a student research volunteer in my 2nd year. It gave me hands-on experience with organising and conducting research studies that paved the way to further my career to become a clinical psychologist. The small cohort size has also made it easier for us to connect and network with others and feel supported by the course team - truly a place where you will be able to meet lifelong friends!
