NGO Forum cum Outstanding NGO Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony 2016

How to combat crime and promote rehabilitation services for law offenders was the topic discussed at the annual NGO forum on correctional services, jointly organised by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the Correctional Services Department (CSD) of the Hong Kong SAR Government on 22 December. CityU academics, CSD officials and NGO representatives were guest speakers in the forum, and certificates of appreciation were presented to outstanding NGO volunteers. This was the 10th consecutive year for CityU’s Department of Applied Social Sciences and the CSD to jointly host the event. The theme of this year’s forum was “Join Hands to Reduce Crime”. Around 250 persons from 80 NGOs attended the event.

Youth Outreach Conference December 2015

Date: 3 – 5 December 2015

Accumulated over 35 years of quality practice experiences, outreach youth work has been very developed in Hong Kong. To share our wisdom with overseas youth workers, the “International Conference on Outreach Work: Youth gangs, Violence and Female Delinquency” was organized on 3rd to 5th  of December 2015. It was the first time that such kind of conference was organized in Asia.  Speakers from Norway, USA, Scotland, Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong gave plenary speeches in the conference. Many frontline outreach workers from Hong Kong shared their valuable working experiences in the District Youth Outreach Work Service, Overnight Outreach Service for Young Night Drifters, Pilot Cyber Youth Outreach Projects, Counselling Centre Service for Psychotropic Substance Abusers, and Community Support Service Scheme.  Youth workers from Singapore and Macau also participated and shared their wisdom in reaching out and working with at-risk young people in their communities

Asian Conference of Criminology 2015

Date: 24 – 26 June 2015

To implement the mission of knowledge transfer of CityU, we organized the 7th Annual Conference of the Asian Criminological Society, with the theme “Criminology and Criminal Justice in a Changing World: Contributions from Asia”, attended by 300 participants from 26 countries. Providing a platform for scholars and practitioners in both Asia and the world to engage in scholarly and professional exchange, it has stimulated a great deal of theoretical and empirical interests in the Asian criminology circle. This event wasco-organized with the Department of Sociology of Chinese University of Hong Kong

Outreach Social Work Forum 2015

Date: 26 May 2015
Co-organized with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, YSNet held a seminar on Triad Society and Outreach Social Work, attended by 130 social workers from 12 welfare agencies from Hong Kong and Macau.  In the morning session, two speakers were invited. One gave a talk on the structure and activities of triad society, and another one presented the recent trend of drug user-dealers in Hong Kong. In the afternoon session, outreach social workers were divided into groups to share their practice wisdom and experiences, followed by a reporting and mutual sharing session.

NGO Forum cum Outstanding NGO Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony 2014

How to enhance rehabilitation programme effectiveness was the topic of the annual NGO forum on correctional services, co-organised by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the Correctional Services Department (CSD) on 26 November. CityU academics, CSD officials and NGO representatives jointed together to exchange their wisdom in the forum. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to outstanding volunteers in the past year. The theme of this year’s forum was “Strategies to Enhance the Effectiveness of the Offender Rehabilitation Programme’. Around 250 representatives of NGOs, academics, volunteers and CSD staff attended the event.
